January Block Package …

michele quilt fabrics framed

from Michele is coming your way! I set up an assembly line at my local Bruegger's yesterday morning and packaged up baggies of fabrics and copies of the pattern. I hope I included everything you need. These are the fabrics chosen for the quilt. They are the Bloom and Grow line from Riley Blake which I purchased from Material Gal. I actually picked up two more designs out of that set on a Sew Mama Sew sale last month (not pictured here), and some of you will see one of those in your baggie.

The photo right above is the quilt block I've chosen. For those of you not in our quilt bee but are hanging out here with us, the design is in the magazine pictured on top. I was up in the air about going with pinwheels or stars, but, lucky me, I came across this dual design that solved my dilemma!

.
Included in your packages, you'll find a combination of three of the prints above, a Kona "spring green" solid, and a Kona "snow" solid. The two solids creating the frame around the pinwheel will be the constant in all the blocks. Use the white for the rectangle pieces and the green for the corner blocks. I will sash in the green when the blocks come back to me.

Black and white copies of the pattern are included in the packages. Some of you mentioned you've purchased the magazine already, so you may not need extra color copies. However, I did scan the pages to my computer, so if you want a color set, please let me know, and I will e-mail them to you.

So, the rest is up to you. Feel free to put your own stamp on the arrangement of the block. Just keep these things in mind:

1. Please keep the pinwheel within the inset frame and a star design outside of that frame, but if you want to offset the designs or skew the placement, go ahead!  (Jacquie -- I'm looking forward to some of your improv moves!)

2. The fabrics I sent are just a jumping off point. Please use a combination of the prints but feel free to add in other fabrics you might like.

3. Please use the solids for the inset frame: the "snow" for the rectangle cuts and the "spring green" for the corner blocks.

4. You can keep the excess fabric for your own stash!

I think that's everything! If I have left anything out, please let me know.  I'm so excited!

glad to be here!

thanks so much for inviting me into this bee, doris. i'm so happy to be part of the group. i know some of you and i'm looking forward to getting to know the rest of you. i'm jacquie and i blog at tallgrass prairie studio. i've been sewing pretty much since i was a little kid, but i only started quilting two years ago. i quit my job (i was tired of traveling the country) and took out my old singer and let those pent up creative juices flow. i love modern quilts and improvisation. i rarely use a pattern when i quilt. i grab some fabric and my rotary cutter and i'm off and running.

i recently moved back to the country from kansas city. we live on 100 acres about an hour outside of the city. my house sits on top of a hill and i'm surrounded by trees on all sides. (just in case you think all of kansas is flat and treeless) my hubby and i are recent empty nesters with one son in college in st. paul and the other working for warner brothers records traveling the country and the world with 'the devil wears prada.'

bruno, a lovely black lab who we adopted recently is my quilting buddy. i can't wait to receive michele's fabric and get started. it wouldn't be a blog post for me without a picture or two, so i'll leave you with some of my favorites from 2009.

WELCOME to One Block Over!

Hi! I'm Doris, the instigator of the 2010 One Block Over Virtual Quilting Bee. We have members spanning the States...New York, Wisconsin, Illinois, California, South Carolina, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Colorado, Kansas and Texas!

Our first month is just around the corner, ladies! I've seen a peek of Michele's plan for us and I think you're gonna like it!

A little introduction of myself... I live in West Des Moines, IA with my sweetie. He has two grown girls in their early 20s and we have two feline "kids" at home. I work a full time University job to "pay the bills" and a part-time Quilt Shop job to "support my habit". I started quilting in my 20s here-and-there, and then seriously quilting on a regular basis about five years ago. My Grandma was a quilter, and my Mom as well, and both were seamstresses that taught me how to sew garments in my pre-teen years. I still sew an item of clothing once in a while, but my fabric obsession revolves around quilting cottons.

Welcome to the Bee, ladies! Can't wait to get to know you better...
