Red Cross Addict ...

April Block for Jacquie - Michele

I just couldn't stop!  Putting these blocks together is such an easy process, no stress, and simple blocking at the end without worry of an exactly perfect design.  After five, though, it was nearly 1:00 AM, and the HGTV shows were beginning to repeat, so bedtime!  Thanks for the great block choice, Jacquie.  I hope you receive loads of them to get your quilt plan done quickly.

Add Whatever You Like

A couple of folks have emailed and asked if they can use their own neutrals for the background. Absolutely! Feel free to mix it up any way you like. So far you all are rocking out the crosses! Keep up the great work!!

Seeing SIMPLY RED

Hi Jacquie! here you go....
I used up the fabric you sent... Have fun with them!

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Hi folks. Sorry I didn't give enough info on the red cross blocks. Here's a tutorial from Tia of Campfollower Bags on how she does cross blocks. Don't fret about this. I'm in Seattle right now, but when I get back I can do a quick little tutorial on how to improvise them if that would help. Essentially how I make a cross is cut a strip of red, sew background on both sides of that strip. then slice through that so you have two sections...then insert another red strip and you have a cross. Then trim to 6.5 inches square. If it's smaller, just add more background fabric. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can do anything else.

This Flock of Geese Flying North

March Block Victoria - Michele
.
Oh, Victoria!  Here come the geese!  Not having made a many-pieced quilt block before, I have no standard for perfection but the magazine photo, and .... you  may have to adjust a little.  It was great having all these geese blocks to sew.  I really love making them.  So therapeutic.  However, I can see that allowing a number of different sewists to make your blocks creates a large chance that seam allowances can differ!

Before sewing almost every seam, I marked out the 1/4-inch in hopes that it is as close to your work as possible for me.  Thanks so much for pre-cutting all the fabrics!  What a job that would be!  Happy Easter everyone!  We had a lovely morning at church today, and light lunch at Waffle House, and then the home chef, my husband, has our big dinner planned.  So, while the others were napping, I finished up the block and readied it for its flight home.  Can't wait to see the finished product.
